Penny Stock Investing

Penny stock investing is another way of putting your money to work for retirement. A penny stock is not traded on any major exchange and is usually priced at under $5 per share. Their requirements for disclosure to the public is limited and their capitalization is small; meaning low stocks prices and/or shares outstanding. They are considered speculative because of their low liquidity, mainly due to being small startup companies. Therefore, investing in such companies (which can earn you a lot of money) should be done only after careful analysis. Penny Stock Investment is not for the faint of heart.

Penny stock investing involves purchasing a stock not scrutinized by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The information about these stocks is not well known and these stocks circulate on something called “pink sheets.” To remain listed on these sheets, no minimum requirements are usually mandated.

Some of the firms you will encounter in penny stock investing are in poor financial condition and may be facing bankruptcy in the future. To be sure, the penny stock companies will never receive a government bailout. The penny stock companies will be hard to sell and you will have to lower the price asked for them.

As stated previously some people will get rich from getting in on the ground floor of a penny stock. On the other hand, it is not true that some of the largest companies today were once penny stock companies. There are those that believe that Wal-Mart was once a penny stock. Not true.

Others are of the belief that since the stock sells for pennies, it cannot go down, but only rise in price. This too is not true. If you are familiar with a penny stock company and have money that can be risked, go ahead and purchase some shares. But, buyers should also be aware of penny stock investing if they are new to the Penny Stock Investment Game.
